The Polio Survivors Association

There are approximately 1.1 million individuals in the U. S. who survived the great polio epidemics of the 1940s and 50s. While most polio survivors recovered a high degree of function, a great number were left with permanent, severe paralysis. The Polio Survivors Association was formed in 1975 as a non-profit corporation to promote the well being and improve the quality of life for these severely disabled polio survivors.
