Mornington Support Group

There are currently 16 Polio Support Groups spread across Victorian metropolitan and country areas. Polio Support Groups (PSG's) are established and run by local members. As such, their mode of operation will vary according to each group's needs.
The Polio Community Officer is in regular contact with PSG co-ordinators and visits each PSG on a rolling schedule throughout the year.

In general the PSG's aim to:

  • offer mutual support to people who have had polio, their families and carers.
  • provide an opportunity for people who have had polio to meet socially to exchange information and share ideas.
  • identify and lobby local agencies and organisations on the needs and rights of people with disabilities.
  • promote and support the goals and activities of Polio Network Victoria.

The Benefits of Being in a Support Group

It is important to be amongst self minded people. A few years ago I was working full time and felt unable to attend a Polio support group, because I couldn’t make the time. Then one day I attended one of Polio Network Victoria’s “Polio Days” and was motivated by the people who attended. They were all busy living their day to day lives but still found time to go to meetings in their areas. (Read more . . .)
